During the European elections in Thuringia held yesterday, over one-third of eligible voters have already cast their ballots. By 2:00 p.m., the voting turnout reached approximately 34.6%, slightly less than during the previous European and municipal elections in 2019 when 36.4% of voters had already participated. Mail-in votes have not been accounted for in this figure.

Thuringia's 1.7 million registered citizens had the opportunity to help determine the European Parliament's future lineup. Simultaneously, around 1.3 million individuals in Thuringia were eligible to vote in runoff elections for their district's administrator or mayor. Voters in 15 districts and free cities were tasked with selecting the person who would represent them in their region for the coming years. Additionally, some municipalities held runoff elections for mayors' positions.

The election commissioner urged the remaining eligible voters to exercise their right to vote before the polling stations closed at 6:00 p.m. Once the polling stations' shutters were drawn, the managers would begin tallying the votes for the European election first and then proceed with the municipal runoff elections.
