Fendt sells more tractors and now offers e-model

Agricultural machinery manufacturer Fendt wants to increase production by around 1,000 tractors this year and also offer an electric model for sale in the future. As the Allgäu-based company reported on Sunday in Hanover at the Agritechnica trade fair, more than 21,000 machines are to be sold worldwide in 2023. Last year, the 20,000 mark was just reached.

The Marktoberdorf-based company expects the market to cool down in 2024, partly due to higher interest rates. However, Fendt expects continued good business in the area of more powerful agricultural machinery with more than 200 hp, where the company is traditionally strong.

In the smaller tractor segment, Fendt wants to offer e-technology. After the company presented an electric tractor for the first time in 2017 and subsequently tested it, the machine can now be ordered. The e-tractor will be produced in Marktoberdorf from the fourth quarter of 2024. The tractor is intended for use in greenhouses or by local authorities, for example. It is also attractive for farms that generate their own energy using photovoltaics, wind power or biogas.

Fendt is part of the US group AGCO, one of the largest agricultural machinery manufacturers in the world. The Group does not disclose detailed business figures for its German subsidiary. In addition to its headquarters in the Allgäu region, Fendt has four other production sites in Germany, employing around 7,700 people in total. This means that the number of employees has risen by around a tenth within a year.

Fendt, recognizing the increasing demand for eco-friendly solutions, plans to expand its vehicle production, including the introduction of an electric model in the vehicle construction sector for agriculture use. The electric tractor, suitable for greenhouses, local authorities, and farms with renewable energy sources, will be manufactured at Fendt's Marktoberdorf facility from the fourth quarter of 2024.
