Against Denmark, the DFB team has one thing at stake above all else: the dream of the Olympics. However, the players also want to use the attention at this important clash for another topic.

Female soccer players want to set an example against violence against women

At the important Nations League match against Denmark on Friday evening in Rostock (20:30/ZDF), the German footballers want to draw attention to violence against women. The national players will wear special orange shirts with the words "Stop violence against women" during the warm-up, as the DFB announced at a press conference on Thursday. This is intended to draw attention to the "Orange The World" campaign by UN Women Germany and send out a signal against violence against women. The campaign will be accompanied by inserts and branding in the stadium.

The UN "Orange The World" campaign has been focusing on the issue of violence since 1991 - from International Day against Violence against Women on November 25 to International Human Rights Day on December 10. The German footballers also took part in the campaign on this year's day against violence against women: In a video on their Instagram account, the national team players displayed orange signs with data on gender-based violence.

"More than every third day, a man kills his partner or ex-partner," said VfL Wolfsburg defender Kathrin Hendrich in the video. "37 per cent of all women have experienced sexualized violence in sport," emphasized Eintracht Frankfurt striker Laura Freigang.

The German women's national soccer team will show their support for the "Orange The World" campaign during their Nations League match against Denmark, as they don special orange shirts with the message "Stop violence against women." This is not the first time the team has taken a stand against gender-based violence; they previously shared a video on Instagram for the International Day against Violence against Women, featuring players displaying orange signs with statistics about the issue.
