New Ulm's Latest News - Female Remains in Tree as Floodwaters Rise

In Swabia, a 32-year-old lady miraculously survived for almost three days atop a tree during a flood. Officials announced her discovery and subsequent rescue on Tuesday afternoon. The woman had vanished on Sunday night in the inundated Silver Forest near Neu-Ulm, and the police shared updates on her condition.

The lady was largely unscathed, although she was weak and dehydrated, police reported. She was swiftly taken to a medical facility.

The woman was in the forest on Saturday night when the water level kept rising. Fortunately, at midnight, she was still able to dial the fire department and rescue services' control center with her phone. Her friend later reported her missing to the police.

Subsequent contact with the woman proved futile due to a dead phone battery. Rescuers initiated an immediate search. A couple of days later, the woman was discovered clinging to the crown of an uprooted tree. She'd spent two days and nights in the tree, over two meters above the water level. Incredibly, the flood had not yet receded completely at the time of her discovery.

Police statement on the dramatic rescue.
