- Fehmarn's regional manager to retire
For seven years, Jürgen Zuch has served as Regional Manager on the Baltic Sea island of Fehmarn, ensuring that traffic on the island remained as smooth as possible. Now, a change is coming, as Zuch will retire at the end of October. His successor, Daniela Borgstedt, looks forward to her new role. "I'm excited to be part of such a large infrastructure project," she said.
The work of Zuch over the past years has been positively evaluated. "A Regional Manager can delve much deeper into the details of the Fehmarn Belt Tunnel project than a local administration could have," said Rudolf Schacht, deputy CEO of the Industry and Commerce Chamber of Lübeck. "Given this, I would have wished for a Regional Manager for all locations along the railway track," said Schacht.
Currently, construction works for the portal of the approximately 19-kilometer-long road and railway tunnel, which is set to connect Germany and Denmark from 2029, are underway in Puttgarden in the north of Fehmarn. The existing railway line on the Baltic Sea island will be expanded to two tracks and electrified. Additionally, the existing federal road will be widened to four lanes in each direction. Another tunnel is planned for the south of the island. The task of the Regional Management is to prevent a potential traffic chaos.
Daniela Borgstedt is set to oversee significant construction efforts, as she noted her excitement for the Fehmarn Belt Tunnel project. The upcoming Regional Manager will have a crucial role in managing the construction of the additional tunnel for the island's south.
