Federal police apprehend several Syrians and Somalis
On Friday night, the federal police once again apprehended several people who had entered Germany illegally via the German-Polish border. One case involved twelve Syrians and four Somalis, the federal police announced in Pasewalk on Friday. They were stopped shortly after midnight in Schwennenz and Grambow. Some of them were carrying passports, in one case a visa from the Russian Federation. According to initial findings, the men had traveled to Poland via Belarus.
A few hours later, four other Syrians who had also entered the country illegally were also apprehended at Grambow station in front of the regional express train to Pasewalk. On Wednesday, the federal police also stopped several men who had crossed the German-Polish border without the necessary identity papers - some of them by cab.
In Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the number of refugees crossing the Polish-German border illegally has risen significantly this year. Those seeking protection are either sent to an initial reception center or are deported back to Poland.
The apprehension of migrants is a recurring issue on the German-Polish border, as evidenced by the twelve Syrians and four Somalis who were caught this week. Furthermore, the number of illegal border crossings by refugees, including Syrians, has seen a significant increase in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern this year.
