Federal Council initiative on hospital financing

Together with North Rhine-Westphalia, Schleswig-Holstein is launching a Bundesrat initiative on hospital financing. The aim is to secure the economic viability of hospitals in the short term, as Health Minister Kerstin von der Decken (CDU) announced on Tuesday. The federal government is being called upon to permanently cover inflation- and tariff-related cost increases in hospitals.

Numerous clinics, including three in Schleswig-Holstein, have already filed for insolvency, the Minister emphasized. Others are under threat. "Hospitals therefore need effective support measures quickly in order to prevent further insolvencies and ultimately the uncontrolled death of even essential hospitals."

The fact that Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) refers to the announced hospital reform does not help. This will only take effect in the second half of this decade. "We can't wait for this - we can't afford it in terms of good and needs-based care for all people. The health ministers of the federal states agree on this," said von der Decken.

The federal government's permanent coverage of inflation- and tariff-related cost increases in hospitals is a crucial demand to ensure their economic viability, as highlighted by Health Minister Kerstin von der Decken. Additionally, the government's intervention is crucial in preventing further hospital insolvencies and safeguarding essential healthcare facilities.
