Federal Constitutional Court: Bundestag election in Berlin must be partially repeated
The CDU/CSU parliamentary group did not go far enough with the Bundestag resolution at the time. It turned to the Constitutional Court to ensure that the second votes for the party lists were cast again in half of the Berlin constituencies. However, the Federal Constitutional Court rejected such a significant expansion, as well as a repetition in the whole of Berlin.
Due to mishaps such as missing ballot papers or polling stations being open too long, there had been more than 1,700 objections to the election, including from the then Federal Returning Officer himself. The latest and most likely date for the partial election rerun is February 11.

The Union parliamentary group believed that a wider repetition was necessary, but the Federal Constitutional Court in Karlsruhe partly disagreed, stating that the Bundestag election in Berlin must be partly repeated. This decision came after numerous objections, including from the then Federal Returning Officer, due to issues such as missing ballot papers and extended polling station hours. Despite the Union parliamentary group's push for a full repetition, the Constitutional Court rejected this proposal as well. The repeated election in the affected constituencies is expected to take place on February 11. Despite this ongoing situation, other global developments continue, such as the potential changes in December and the recent attacks on ships in the Red Sea affecting international trade routes.
