Federal authorities reportedly preparing additional budget for the year 2024.

The economy is performing worse than anticipated, allowing for a larger net credit uptake due to the fiscal component in the debt brake, according to a newspaper with insider sources. Lately, a few ministries, including the Federal Ministry of Defense, have notified Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP) about their additional requirements. The "Bild" newspaper anticipates the availability of the supplementary budget by the autumn season.

Christian Haase, the parliamentary spokesman for the CDU/CSU parliamentary group's fiscal policy, critiqued the coalition's plans. "The supplementary budget exists solely to support the continuation of the current government alliance," Haase informed the "Bild" newspaper. "We'll find measures in the supplementary budget that ought to have been incorporated into the 2025 budget."

The debt will balloon by an extra 50 billion euros with the addition of a supplementary budget, claims Haase. If such a budget is on the table, it should be ensured that the actions help address the economic hardships.
