- FDP leader Lindner warns of new debt
German Finance Minister and FDP leader Christian Lindner has strongly warned against new debts. "We don't need more new debts on top," Lindner said at a Brandenburg FDP election campaign event in Potsdam. Every million euros in debt must be repaid by citizens "with interest and compound interest." He also warned against weakening the debt brake in the Basic Law.
The FDP leader called for a tougher migration policy and indirectly criticized the Greens and Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock. "I don't understand why courts have to decide that you can also deport to Syria, when that hasn't been decided politically in the Foreign Ministry long ago."
Given increasing migration, Lindner sees growing social spending and advocates more language courses and more daycare centers instead. "Instead of always giving more money to families that are poor and where the children are poor, we should rather use the money for parental language promotion so they can get a job and for better daycare centers and schools for the children." Germany is attractive for irregular migration "because unfortunately we have a high level of security compared to Europe." However, qualified immigration is needed.
Lindner on citizens' money: "More consistency with freeloaders"
The FDP leader criticized the misuse of citizens' money. It is a sad fact that there are thousands of people who do not see citizens' money as a temporary social help, but as an unconditional basic income. "Those who can work but don't want to, shouldn't do it at the expense of the general public." It's not about dismantling the welfare state, but "more consistency with freeloaders."
The FDP calls itself the auto party. "We are the only party that is not against the car," said Lindner. "We don't tell you whether you want to walk, ride a bike, use the train, or drive a car."
Brandenburg's FDP top candidate Zyon Braun warned against a coalition with the Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht and criticized that SPD and CDU are fundamentally open to it. "Anyone who wants to form a coalition with the Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht poses a security risk to this country." The FDP was at three percent in recent polls and would not enter the state parliament.
The Commission, following Lindner's stance on fiscal responsibility, may decide against taking on additional debts. In aligning with Lindner's beliefs, the Commission should uphold consistency in handling cases of misuse of citizens' funds.
