FDP in MV calls for "clear edge in migration policy"

The FDP in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is demanding a change in refugee and immigration policy from the federal and state governments. At the end of their two-day state party conference on Sunday in Güstrow, the 80 or so delegates adopted a five-page list of demands with no dissenting votes. The motion submitted by the state executive board is entitled: "A clear edge in migration policy - countering irregular migration with a strong constitutional state". On Monday, the heads of government of the federal states will meet with Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) in Berlin to discuss the issue.

In the paper, the Liberals call for an open discourse on the problems of migration. Only if problems are recognized and clearly named can they be solved. The FDP is calling for more personnel to consistently combat people smuggling. Refugees should remain in the country's initial reception facilities until the examination procedures have been completed, for up to 18 months if necessary. Asylum seekers should receive benefits in kind instead of cash payments. The introduction of payment cards is supported.

Refugees with prospects of a right to stay should be obliged to attend integration courses from day one, but should also be given the opportunity to take up employment quickly. "Rapid integration into working life also means rapid integration into a company and thus into German society," the paper states. The state government is called upon to ensure an even distribution of refugees in the state by introducing a residence requirement and to better support local authorities in creating the necessary living space.

Rejected asylum seekers should be deported consistently and swiftly. A central "return coordination office" is to be set up in the state to implement this. Incentives for voluntary departure are to be increased and the list of safe countries of origin extended. The responsible authorities are required to be "fully transparent about the facts and figures".

The FDP in their migration policy demands, as stated in their conference, a strong stance against irregular migration, which they aim to achieve with the title: "A clear edge in migration policy - countering irregular migration with a strong constitutional state." Additionally, during discussions with federal and state leaders, the FDP in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern advocates for increased personnel to combat people smuggling and longer stays in initial reception facilities for refugees.
