Parliament - FDP, CDU and AfD want debate on wind turbines in the forest

The construction of wind turbines in Thuringia's forests could become more difficult again. This is envisaged in a draft bill by the opposition FDP, which is to be discussed in the state parliament in Erfurt today. Together with the CDU and the AfD, the FDP had ensured that a corresponding amendment to the Forest Act was put on the agenda of the state parliament session against the will of the red-red-green coalition. The general ban on wind turbines in forests in Thuringia was overturned by the Constitutional Court in Karlsruhe last year.

A possible vote on the forest law could see a law changed for the second time after the controversial reduction in land transfer tax with the votes of the FDP and CDU as well as the AfD, which is classified as far-right in Thuringia. However, it is not yet certain whether the FDP's bill will ultimately be voted on.

The background to this is a report by the scientific service of the state parliament. It sees legal risks in the FDP bill on wind turbines in forests, but does not come to a final assessment. When asked about the paper, FDP MP Robert-Martin Montag explained that the FDP group still wanted to discuss the next steps.
