FC Schalke 04 extends Drexler ahead of schedule
FC Schalke 04 has confirmed the early contract extension with attacking player Dominick Drexler. The 33-year-old signed a new contract, which is valid until June 30, 2025. As the current 16th-placed team in the Bundesliga 2 announced on Tuesday, "there are options for further cooperation". In his 63 games for Schalke to date, Drexler has scored eleven goals and made ten assists. He moved to Gelsenkirchen from 1. FC Köln in the summer of 2021.
"Dominick is characterized by his intelligence and creativity. He can make clever use of spaces and control the game on the pitch," said sporting director André Hechelmann about the midfielder, who has already acquired a B+ coaching license. Coach Karel Geraerts was also delighted with the contract extension: "Dominick is a very good footballer who understands the game and takes responsibility."
Drexler called Schalke 04 a "special club" and added: "I can identify with all the values that characterize this club and will continue to work hard to repay the trust placed in me."
