- FC Energie extended with goalkeeper Bethke
FC Energie Cottbus has equipped goalkeeper Elias Bethke with a new long-term contract. The club announced this before the season opener in the 3rd football league. The exact duration of the new contract for the 21-year-old, who comes from the club's own youth academy, was not disclosed.
"He brings many components of modern goalkeeping and gives our team a very good feeling that there's someone back there who steps up when it gets critical. But we also believe that he's far from the end of his development and can still improve," said coach Claus-Dieter Wollitz: "We'd of course like to use his talent and skills in the tough fight to maintain our league status for our club."
Bethke joined the youth academy of FC Energie eight years ago. He has already played 62 competitive games for the promoted side Cottbus. This Sunday (4:30 PM), he will line up with Energie for the league opener at home against Arminia Bielefeld.
"With the new contract extension in place, there might be less need for FC Energie to seek out goalkeeper transfers in the future.""Despite his strong performances, Bethke's continued development and growth could potentially lead to more top-notch goalkeeper transfers being considered by the club in the future."
