Soccer - FC Bayern tests at FC Basel and plans trip to the sun
FC Bayern Munich will play a test match in Switzerland against FC Basel during the short winter break. After foregoing a training camp at the start of the year, coach Thomas Tuchel will take on the Swiss club at St. Jakob-Park on Saturday, January 6 (3:30 p.m.).
Training will start in the new year after the Christmas vacation on January 2 in the afternoon, as Tuchel said. After the short preparation period, Bayern will continue the Bundesliga season on Friday, January 12, with a home match against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. Tuchel reported on Friday that they were planning to head south for a few days in the sun after the final first-leg match.
"We might use the time after the Hoffenheim game for a short training camp. A training camp always does something to you. We'll see if that still makes sense," said the 50-year-old. Bayern don't kick off the second half of the season until January 21 at home against Werder Bremen. It's more pleasant to train in the warmth, said Tuchel.
In previous years, the Bayern professionals have always prepared for the rest of the season with a winter camp in Qatar at the start of the year. However, the contract with the controversial sponsor Qatar Airways no longer exists.
