FC Bayern signs 17-year-old Australian

FC Bayern Munich has signed a 17-year-old attacking talent. As the German soccer champions announced on Tuesday, Nestory Irankunda will join from Adelaide United on July 1, 2024. The 18-year-old will sign a long-term contract with the German record champions. Irankunda is said to have been in the sights of other European clubs.

"We've had Nestory on our radar for some time and are delighted to have reached an agreement with him and Adelaide United about a move to Munich next summer," said Jochen Sauer, Director of Youth Development. "Nestory is an extremely fast wing-back, strong on the dribble and with a lot of drive on goal. We are convinced of his potential and that he will take the next steps with us." Irankunda will turn 18 on February 9, 2024.

Irankunda is currently an Australian U17 international, but has already received a call-up to the senior national team. The Tanzanian-born player has played 39 professional games for Adelaide United to date. He has scored nine goals and provided two assists. "The experience of the next few months in the A-League will certainly have a very positive effect on his further development," said Sauer. Initially, he could be developed further at the Bayern campus.

FC Bayern Munich's interest in new talent doesn't end with Irankunda; other European clubs also covet young players. Despite Bundesliga rivalry, FC Bayern Munich could potentially make transfers from Bundesliga clubs in the future.
