Soccer - FC Bayern in the Champions League draw

FC Bayern 's reactions to the Champions League round of 16 draw. The Munich team will face Lazio Roma in February and March.

Christoph Freund (Sporting Director): "We are very happy to be in the round of 16. Italian opponents are always difficult to play against. Lazio are an experienced team, also with a lot of international experience. They're currently struggling a bit in the league. But it will be a very attractive game and we're really looking forward to it. The stadium has already seen many big games, it's a really good atmosphere. We hope that we can put ourselves in a good starting position in Rome. Our goal, of course, is to progress to the next round."

Andreas Jung (Chief Marketing Officer): "We shouldn't underestimate Lazio under any circumstances. We've already played against them in 2020/21, won 4:1 in Rome and also won 2:1 at home, albeit in an empty stadium. We know how emotional Italian fans are."

Manuel Neuer (captain): "It's an Italian team that is always well positioned tactically. We've already had positive experiences with Lazio. We're going into the games as favorites, but we can't underestimate them. I have very positive memories of the stadium. The fans in Italy are always very vocal. Everyone is looking forward to the clash. We'll try to win both games."

Thomas Müller (vice-captain): "I'm happy about the draw. It's an exciting city, Lazio as a club is always interesting. If you qualify for the round of 16, you've done a good job. It's a time-honored stadium, so many battles have been fought there. We're concentrating on the task at hand, it's a nice thing."
