Soccer - FC Bayern in "final vote" on winter camp

According to sporting director Christoph Freund, FC Bayern is in the "final stages" of deciding whether the Munich soccer professionals will still attend a training camp in mid-January, as recommended by coach Thomas Tuchel. Between the first two Bundesliga games of the new year on January 12 against TSG Hoffenheim and on January 21 against Werder Bremen, they could go to southern Europe for a few days, as Freund reported in Munich on Monday.

"We are currently clarifying whether we can incorporate and implement this and whether the conditions are right," said Freund. Tuchel's wish would be feasible in principle after the German Football League rescheduled the canceled home match against Union Berlin on January 24.

Due to the short Christmas break and the expiry of the sponsorship agreement with Qatar Airways, the German record champions will not be holding a training camp at the start of the year this time. In previous years, the Munich team had always prepared for the second half of the season in Qatar. This time, Bayern will resume training in Munich after their vacation on January 2. On January 6, they will play a test match in Switzerland against FC Basel.

Tuchel had announced that he wanted to use the time after the Hoffenheim game for a short trip "to get a bit more sun and fill up on vitamin D". A training camp in different climatic conditions than in wintry Germany is also suitable for spending more time together: "You stay on the pitch longer, train more in small groups and can work more tactically because the players can stay on the pitch longer without the risk of cooling down."
