FC Bayern: Frenchwoman Frappart leads Copenhagen game

FC Bayern Munich will experience a novelty in its 287th Champions League match. The home game on Wednesday (21:00/DAZN) against FC Copenhagen in the Allianz Arena will be refereed by Stephanie Frappart. The French referee was nominated for the group match by the European Football Union on Monday.

Of course, the 39-year-old is no stranger to the German national team players Manuel Neuer, Thomas Müller and Serge Gnabry. Frappart was also on the pitch during the DFB's bitter preliminary round exit at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar against Costa Rica (4:2) a year ago. It was a historic assignment: the Frenchwoman was the first female referee to officiate a match at a men's World Cup.

This is Frappart's third Champions League assignment in total and her first of the current season. In Real Madrid's 5:1 win over Celtic Glasgow last season, the Frenchwoman caught the eye with three penalty whistles in the first half of the match. However, she is not completely new to FC Bayern either: in the past, she has officiated two European Cup matches for the Bayern women's soccer team.

The upcoming Champions League match between FC Bayern Munich and FC Copenhagen on Wednesday is significant, as it will be refereed by UEFA's nominated Frenchwoman, Stephanie Frappart. remarkably, Frappart has officiated in Champions League matches before, including a game featuring FC Bayern's women's soccer team.
