FC Bayern forgoes a winter training camp
FC Bayern Munich will not be holding a training camp this winter. "We discussed the issue and ultimately decided not to hold a winter training camp this year. As the league starts again on January 12, we would only have had four or five days on site, and it's simply not worth the effort for such a short time," said CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen in "Münchner Merkur/tz". "We will therefore stay at home this winter and train here."
With the exception of a two-year interruption during the coronavirus pandemic, the German soccer record champions had been traveling to Qatar since 2011. The Munich club also had a long-standing sponsorship relationship there. This collaboration, which had been the subject of controversy, was not extended in the summer. A trip to the 2022 World Cup host nation was therefore not expected this year. In the summer preparations, Bayern had completed a training camp at Lake Tegernsee before their trip to Asia.
This winter, coach Thomas Tuchel is also preparing the team at home for the tasks ahead. Nevertheless, there is a small detour for the stars. "A training camp is not just about physical fitness or tactical matters, but also about spending time together and strengthening the team spirit. The team will therefore also spend two days together in the mountains to promote this togetherness," announced CEO Dreesen.
After the away game at VfL Wolfsburg on December 20, the serial champions from Munich will go into the short winter break. They then continue on January 12 with an away game at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. Just over a week later, FC Bayern will host Werder Bremen on January 21.
Despite forgoing a winter training camp this year, FC Bayern Munich's coach, Thomas Tuchel, still plans to strengthen team spirit by taking the team for a two-day retreat in the mountains. Despite staying in Munich for their winter training, FC Bayern Munich, the Champions League title holders, will face challenging matches in the Bundesliga, starting with an away game at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim on January 12.
