Soccer - FC Augsburg with record loss in 2022/23 season
FC Augsburg ended the 2022/23 season with a loss of almost nine million euros, a record loss in its time in the Bundesliga. As the Swabians announced at the general meeting on Tuesday, the club posted a loss of €8.83 million. Previously, FCA had been in the black for years and only suffered small losses during the coronavirus period.
According to the club, the loss had been deliberately calculated, among other things by not selling a number of key players. As a result, FCA forewent potential transfer income. In addition, write-downs of almost 19 million euros were cited, which resulted from investments in players from the past.
Calculated over five years - including the coronavirus period - Augsburg made a small profit. Managing Director Michael Ströll explained that only a few clubs in Germany are as economically stable as FCA.
In total, the Swabians generated income of around 90.5 million euros last season. Among other things, record sponsorship income of almost 22 million euros contributed to this. TV income of a good 45.1 million euros accounted for almost half of total revenue.
Expenditure amounted to 99.4 million euros and was therefore significantly higher than a year earlier. The club also attributed this to increased costs, for example for service providers and inflation.
