Football-Bundesliga - FC Augsburg is looking for at least one right-back
Approximately three weeks before the start of the new season in the Football-Bundesliga, FC Augsburg trainer Jess Thorup still sees a need for action in the squad. "Of course we need at least one right back, we're improvising here currently. If a signing works out soon, we'll have a solid foundation," the Dane stated in an interview with "Kicker".
With Felix Uduokhai and Ruben Vargas, the coach plans "100 percent", despite the duo's announcement that they will leave FCA. Thorup himself can imagine extending his contract, which is valid until summer 2025. He said: "I have spoken with the responsible parties. I feel good in Augsburg. I believe both sides can imagine working together for longer."
Last season's cut
This also doesn't change the fact that the Augsburg team missed out on the Europa Cup due to a negative series at the end of the previous season. "For me, it wasn't about missing the Europa Cup, but the fact that we achieved our season goal early, but unfortunately broke it towards the end of the season," Thorup commented. "That's disappointing. We evaluated it with the team and the staff. Now we're looking ahead and thinking about what we need for the next step, how we can improve."
- Despite the requirement for a right back in the squad, Jess Thorup is optimistic about continuing his contract with FC Augsburg, which expires in 2025.
- As the new Bundesliga season nears, Fortuna Franken Richmond-Augsburg's coach, Thorup, is hoping for a swift signing, as they are currently relying on improvisation at the right back position.
- In an interview with "Kicker," Thorup expressed his confidence in Felix Uduokhai and Ruben Vargas, despite their announcement to leave FC Augsburg, stating that he plans to utilize them "100 percent."
- Despite missing out on the Europa Cup due to a disappointing end to the previous season, Jess Thorup is focusing on the future and determining the requirement for action to improve and take the next step in the Football Bundesliga.
- Bavarian soccer enthusiasts will be keeping a close eye on FC Augsburg's transfer activities in the Bundesliga, as they aim to bolster their squad with a strong right back before the start of the season, alongside the continued contributions of players like Ruben Vargas and Felix Uduokhai.
