FC Augsburg has appointed a new assistant coach for head coach Jess Thorup. Following Jonas Scheuermann's move to English Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion, former Augsburg striker Imre Szabics has taken up the previously vacant position. As announced by the Bundesliga football club, the 43-year-old has signed a contract until June 30, 2026.
Szabics played 58 games for FCA between 2007 and 2010, scoring nine goals and providing nine assists. The former Hungarian international most recently worked at FC Zurich, where Augsburg's sporting director Marinko Jurendic also used to be employed.
"Imre brings a wealth of experience as a coach in club football and with the national team to our staff, in addition to his playing experience. He also has a keen eye for the development of young talent, thanks to his work in youth development and as a chief scout. With the appointment of Imre Szabics, we want to continue to actively promote the development of young talents," explained Jurendic.
