Process - Fawn killed during mowing work: criminal proceedings dropped
The Homburg District Court in Bad Homburg has temporarily halted the criminal proceedings against an employee of an agricultural business due to a violation of the Animal Welfare Act. There is no concrete evidence that the man knowingly allowed the killing of a kitten while mowing the meadow, the judge stated. The kitten had one leg and half a jaw removed, and its chest had been cut open.
The 26-year-old defendant testified in court that the owner of the meadow in Wehrheim had assured him before the mowing began in spring 2021 that the area had been inspected beforehand with a drone. The owner confirmed this in his testimony. However, he also admitted that this was incorrect information. He only learned later that the drone had not flown over the relevant meadow.
As a condition for the suspension of the criminal proceedings, the defendant must pay 300 Euros to a charitable organization.
