Processes - Fatal pool party: appeal hearing begins
A good four years after the death of two men in a pool at a private Christmas party in the district of Leipzig, the legal investigation into the case is entering its second round. From Tuesday (9.00 a.m.), Leipzig District Court will be hearing an appeal against two defendants accused of involuntary manslaughter and negligent bodily harm.
According to the indictment, the men allegedly tipped a block of dry ice into the pool at the Christmas party in Gerichshain on December 22, 2019. This caused carbon dioxide to collect above the surface of the water and the 20 and 39-year-old men fell unconscious and drowned.
At first instance, the accused were acquitted by the Grimma district court. The public prosecutor's office appealed against this decision. The Leipzig District Court has scheduled a total of two trial days. A decision could be announced on December 18.
