Bayreuth Regional Court - Fatal dispute in a shared flat: verdicts handed down
In the trial surrounding the violent death of a man in a shared flat in Upper Franconia, the 25-year-old defendant has been convicted of murder. On Monday, the Bayreuth Regional Court chamber handed down a prison sentence of twelve years; he was also ordered to undergo alcohol withdrawal. A woman who had also lived in the shared flat was also charged. The 41-year-old was sentenced to two and a half years for accessory to manslaughter, according to a court spokeswoman.
Last February, a walker had found a badly mangled body in a wooded area. The 48-year-old victim had died after an argument with his roommates. He had lived in a house together with three other people in Mainleus (Kulmbach district). The court considered it proven that the now convicted 25-year-old had beaten the victim and then taken him to the forest. The man died there from his injuries. The argument on the evening of the crime is said to have been about money and a blocked toilet.
At the start of the trial in November, the impressions of life in the shared flat were particularly shocking - alcohol consumption and violence were the order of the day.
Another flatmate also played a role in the case. The public prosecutor's office had previously announced that the investigation against him had been provisionally closed because he was not fit to be questioned or tried for an indefinite period of time. The reasons for the verdict stated that the roommate had asked the two now convicted men to remove the seriously injured victim from the house. The verdict is not final.
