Accidents - Fatal bicycle accident: police are looking for witnesses

After another turning accident with a fatally injured cyclist, the police in Hamburg are now looking for witnesses who can help to clarify the circumstances of the accident. The identity of the cyclist has also not yet been established, the authorities announced on Thursday. According to the information, the man was hit by a lorry turning left in the Wilhelmsburg district on Wednesday afternoon as it was trying to turn into the same lane. He was run over and died at the scene of the accident.

According to the police, they also called in an expert to reconstruct the accident. Traces were secured using a drone and a 3D scanner, among other things. A crisis intervention team looked after the 50-year-old truck driver at the scene. According to the fire department, the man was subsequently taken to hospital due to shock.

Time and again, cyclists are killed in turning accidents in Hamburg. Most recently, a 33-year-old man was run over by a coach in the city center in November. At the end of August, a 15-year-old cyclist was hit by a truck in Hamburg-Groß Flottbek.
