In the event of an alleged speeding incident in Dortmund, where an 11-year-old boy was fatally injured, the whereabouts of a suspect wanted on an arrest warrant remain unknown. The Dortmund Public Prosecutor's Office accuses the 19-year-old, among other things, of negligent homicide.

He is alleged to have disregarded a red traffic light on June 29, traveling at a significantly higher speed. The car struck the boy, who was crossing the street with his sister. The 11-year-old sustained life-threatening injuries and later died in the hospital. His 15-year-old sister was also thrown onto the sidewalk and suffered serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

Unknown whereabouts of the suspect

It is not known whether the suspect, who has dual German-Turkish nationality, is currently in Germany, a spokesman for the Public Prosecutor's Office said. It is also impossible to say whether he will return to Germany in the future.

However, various measures have been taken to arrest the suspect, spokesman Carsten Dombert reported. He did not provide details, but noted that converting a national arrest warrant into an international one "is no problem."

Multi-week vacation in Turkey

The Public Prosecutor's Office initially failed to obtain an arrest warrant for the suspect in July, as the local court rejected the application. The 19-year-old was to be taken into custody due to the risk of evidence tampering, but there was no risk of flight at the time.

Only after the Public Prosecutor's Office appealed to the Regional Court was a national arrest warrant issued for the man. However, the 19-year-old had already traveled to Turkey for a planned multi-week vacation, according to his lawyer.

The lawyer assured that this was not an attempt to flee and provided a return date in August to the investigating authority, Dombert explained. The Public Prosecutor's Office does not make this return date public.

In this situation, the authorities might seek assistance from the Member States, as stated by the Commission, to locate the suspect who is currently in Turkey. The 19-year-old, wanted on an arrest warrant for negligent homicide, is on a multi-week vacation there.
