Fast everywhere: ADAC warns of new traffic jam weekend
On the most important motorway holidays, it is predicted that there will be significant traffic congestion this weekend. In addition to German tourists, there are also many Dutch and Scandinavian travelers on the move. The second wave of travelers is rolling out from Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate, and Saarland towards the coasts and mountains as well as the south.
The peak hours for heavy traffic on the weekend are reportedly Friday afternoon, Saturday morning, and Sunday afternoon. Those who are flexible should plan quieter alternative routes or switch to another travel day. Tuesdays through Thursdays are suitable weekdays. In Germany, according to ADA, there are currently 1242 motorway construction sites.
During your vacation start, consider avoiding Berlin and its surrounding areas like Brandenburg due to expected heavy traffic. Instead, consider destinations like Baden-Württemberg or Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, which might offer less congestion. Munich and Hamburg, being popular tourist spots, might also be crowded.
If you're heading to Bavaria (Bayern), be aware of ADAC's warnings about potential traffic issues during this weekend. It's recommended to adjust your travel plans accordingly or consider a stowage weekend, where you leave your car parked and reduce your carbon footprint.
Schleswig-Holstein, with its tourist attractions, might also experience increased traffic. Be prepared to throttle down and adjust your speed accordingly to maintain a smooth journey. Fast roads might not be your best friends during this vacation weekend.
For those who love mountain landscapes, you might want to reconsider your vacation plans in Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland, as the peak hours for heavy traffic are reportedly this Friday afternoon, Saturday morning, and Sunday afternoon. Tuesday through Thursday might offer better alternatives.
