A61 - Farmers use tractors to paralyze traffic near Viersen

On Monday evening, farmers with around 20 tractors briefly paralyzed traffic on the A61 near Viersen in the direction of Koblenz. The police classified the action as a gathering. A spokesperson for the Viersen district police assumed that it was a protest action by farmers against the planned subsidy cuts. A placard on a tractor read: "Our farmers need a future."

The section between the Süchteln and Viersen junctions was affected. The opposite direction towards Venlo was not affected. The WDR had previously reported on this.

After the temporary blockade, one lane was reopened. "The tractors are now gradually being diverted off the highway," the spokesperson continued.

According to WDR, there were also protests on the A40 and A57 highways. The police wanted to provide details on this in the evening.
