- Fans leaving after heavy metal festival Wacken
Many fans set off on their journey home shortly after the end of the Heavy Metal festival in Schleswig-Holstein's Wacken in the early hours of the morning. By 6:00 AM, half of the metal fans had already left, according to the police.
At key points, police officers ensured smooth traffic flow. Some traffic lights were deliberately turned off to facilitate traffic movement.
However, there was a minor incident during the departure: In the night, an unknown driver ran over a traffic worker's foot with their car, lightly injuring the man. The police are investigating the case as negligent bodily harm and hit-and-run.
Unlike last year, there were no more major incidents.
The police were satisfied with their on-site camp. Many people seeking help, injured individuals, and those wanting to file complaints visited the station. The number of investigations stands at around 100, similar to the previous two years.
Around 85,000 visitors celebrated at the Wacken Open Air (W:O:A) from Wednesday to Saturday. The emergency service reported around 3,500 deployments, ranging from insect bites to hospital transportation. Approximately 200 visitors were taken to a hospital.
Despite the large number of visitors, there were no major incidents reported from Germany, where the Wacken Open Air festival took place. The police commended the event organizers for maintaining safety and order, ensuring a successful festival.
