Football - Fans braved the rain to support the DFB team in the European Championship quarter-finals.
Approximately 2000 fans eagerly awaited the arrival of the German national football team at their Euro 2024 quarters in Herzogenaurach despite the heavy rain. By the home ground where the DFB players will be staying during the tournament, Julian Nagelsmann and his current 24 Euro candidates were welcomed by Adidas at a special event.
Dressed in white raincoats, the national coach and the players happily obliged by signing autographs and posing for selfies with their fans, with the fan anthem "Major Tom" ringing out from the stands. Manuel Neuer and Florian Wirtz shot fan shirts out of a black-red-gold cannon into the crowd, as Nagelsmann remarked, "It's fantastic to see you all here! Thanks for coming. The weather is awful, but that's not my fault. I've always eaten well."
Despite the thick gray clouds and the heavy rainfall, the fans remained undeterred. They had been treated to a preview of Neuer greeting them from the train coming from Thuringia: "It's taking a while. We're really looking forward to you."
In the coming weeks, fans can take note of whether the DFB team is at their quarters based on the color of the shirts displayed on the field. The white home jersey will be visible when they're at the quarters, while the blue away shirt will serve as a sign of their absence.
The German national team completed their final training session in the morning in Blankenhain, Thuringia before boarding the ICE train to Franconia. They are expected to have their first training session at the Home Ground on Saturday at 11:00 am, with Ukraine as their penultimate Euro test opponent on Monday, June 13, at the Max-Morlock-Stadion in Nuremberg (8:45 pm, broadcasted on ARD).
In the group phase, the DFB team will be playing against Scotland (June 14, Munich), Hungary (June 19, Stuttgart), and Switzerland (June 23, Frankfurt).
