1st Bundesliga - Fan protest in Augsburg: "No to investors in the DFL!"
At the Bundesliga match between FC Augsburg and Borussia Dortmund, fans of both teams also protested against the planned entry of investors into the German Football League. "No to investors in the DFL!" was the message on a flyer distributed by Augsburg fans before the match on Saturday. "A different kind of soccer is possible, it just has to be wanted."
In the stadium, both fan scenes unfurled banners with the identical statement: "We will not be part of your deal - fuck the DFL!"
The Ultra fans joined the boycott announced at the start of the match. Before and after kick-off, they initially refrained from the usual vociferous support for their teams. As a result, it was relatively quiet in the WWK Arena, which was sold out with just over 30,000 spectators. After twelve minutes of restraint, the Ultras then chanted: "Fuck the DFL!"
At the general meeting on Monday, the German Football League (DFL) received a mandate from the professional clubs to enter into concrete negotiations with a strategic marketing partner.
A financial investor is to pay up to one billion euros for a percentage share of the TV revenues. The contract is to have a maximum term of 20 years. This agreement has met with disapproval from many club supporters. FC Augsburg abstained from the vote, while Dortmund voted in favor of the deal.
