Weather - Falling Rhine water levels: but a rise is possible again
Following the flooding caused by rain and thaw, the water levels of the Rhine are falling again. The flood forecasting center of the Rhineland-Palatinate State Office for the Environment announced on Monday that water levels on the Upper Rhine are expected to fall until Thursday. According to current forecasts, water levels are expected to rise again by the weekend.
The water levels on the Middle Rhine are also expected to fall by the middle of the week, it said. After that, water levels are also expected to stagnate or rise towards the weekend.
The water level at the Speyer gauge fell below the high water mark II, which is decisive for the suspension of navigation, during the night.
