Fall in the number of students in NRW
The number of students in North Rhine-Westphalia has fallen by 4.2 percent. In the current winter semester, there were 711,300 students enrolled, 31,200 fewer than in the previous year, reported the State Statistical Office in Düsseldorf on Monday.
The last time there was a lower number of students in NRW was ten years ago. The total number of students fell, although the number of first-year students rose - by 2100 to 91,100, as the office reported on the basis of provisional figures.
Despite the increase in first-year students, the overall decline in student enrollment persists in Universities across NRW. Consequently, the total number of students in NRW's Universities is at its lowest point in a decade.
