Mannheim - Fake tradesmen steal money and jewelry: arrest warrants
An arrest warrant has been issued for four men for allegedly posing as fake tradesmen and stealing money and jewelry. Under the pretext of having to check water pipes, the suspects, aged between 22 and 59, are said to have gained access to apartments in Mannheim, Bruchsal and Brühl, police announced on Monday. Their victims were mainly elderly women.
According to the report, cash and jewelry worth 2,600 euros were stolen from a 77-year-old woman at the beginning of November. One suspect is said to have posed as an employee of the public utility company and gained access to the apartment with another man. A third man is said to have guarded the entrance. When the woman became suspicious, the suspects fled with the loot, according to the police.
In a similar incident a few days later, jewelry worth 150 euros was stolen from a 78-year-old woman. According to the police, two other, initially unknown suspects were involved. After another crime last Thursday, four suspects were arrested.
A day later, the men were brought before the investigating judge at Mannheim district court, who issued arrest warrants for aggravated gang theft. The investigation is still ongoing.
