Fake policeman: Senior citizen hands over 90,000 euros
A suspected telephone fraudster posed as a police officer and swindled a senior citizen in Lower Franconia out of 90,000 euros. The scam was only discovered when the woman contacted the Aschaffenburg police and asked for her money, according to a statement on Monday. The criminal investigation department has started the investigation.
According to the information, the senior citizen received a call from an alleged police officer at the beginning of November. He lied to her that her home was being burgled and that she should therefore get her savings from her safe deposit box and hand them over to the police. The woman then handed over the cash to an unknown collector. Officers from the Aschaffenburg police told her that she was the victim of fraudsters on Sunday when she called them and asked about the status of the investigation into the supposedly imminent burglary.
The officers repeatedly warn against such scams and point out that the police and the justice system never demand money or jewelry.
In this case, the criminal's modus operandi involved impersonating a police officer and falsely claiming a home burglary, which led the senior citizen to withdraw and hand over 90,000 euros from her safe deposit box. Unfortunately, such Underfront crimes, where criminals exploit vulnerabilities and mislead people, are a regrettable reality.
