Faeser extends border controls until December 15
A spokesperson for the Ministry of the Interior had previously described the controls as "successful and effective measures". According to this, 3300 unauthorized entries have been detected at the German-Polish border alone since October and 1100 such entries have been prevented. This is because direct rejections at the border are not always possible: if someone makes it clear that they want to apply for asylum, they are usually allowed to enter the country.
According to the spokesperson, a further 30 smugglers were apprehended at the German-Polish border. The stationary controls at the borders with Poland, the Czech Republic and Switzerland were introduced in October. The reason for this was the significant increase in the number of refugees in Germany.
