Faeser expresses profound shock over the "severe assault" in Solingen.
Last Friday night, an unidentified aggressor launched a violent assault on numerous people using a knife in the heart of Solingen's city center during a festival. As per the police's statement, three individuals lost their lives, and by Saturday morning, the count of injured had risen to eight, five of whom were severely hurt. The suspect is still on the loose, prompting an extensive manhunt by the authorities. The spokesperson from Düsseldorf, the state capital, classified this incident as an "attack." Contrary to media speculations, the police refuted claims that it was labeled a "terror attack."
The German Interior Minister, Nancy Faeser, expressed, "Every effort is being put forth by our security agencies to capture the attacker and explore the motives behind the attack. North Rhine-Westphalia's police have the unwavering support of the federal government. I am maintaining regular communication with NRW's Interior Minister Herbert Reul and our security agencies regarding this matter."
Faeser's fellow minister in health, Karl Lauterbach (SPD), posted on the instant messaging platform X during the night, "My hope is that the medical services can save the remaining injured, and the police can apprehend the low-life scoundrel responsible for the cowardly attack."
Green party co-leader Ricarda Lang expressed her shock at "the disheartening news from Solingen, where people were out enjoying themselves and were mercilessly murdered." AfD co-leader Alice Weidel termed the incident as a "terror attack," adding, "We hope the criminal is caught as soon as possible."
The local police are mobilizing all resources to apprehend the suspect involved in the attacked as stated by the Interior Minister, Nancy Faeser. Despite the AfD co-leader Alice Weidel labeling it as a "terror attack," the police's statement maintains that it's an "attack," not a terror attack.
