- Extreme temperatures of up to 36 degrees expected in Berlin and Brandenburg, prompting heat advisory.
A scorching and sweaty day is expected across Berlin and Brandenburg. The German Meteorological Service (DMS) has issued a heat alert for both regions. The medical professionals issue a warning about the potential hazardous heat stress that could result in various health complications. They recommend avoiding the sun as much as possible, staying hydrated, and maintaining cool indoor spaces.
The day begins bright and arid. In the afternoon, there's a chance of isolated heavy downpours and showers in eastern Brandenburg. The temperature swings between 33 and 36 degrees Celsius.
The forest fire risk is high to extremely high in nearly all Brandenburg districts, particularly in the western part of the state, as reported by DMS. Yesterday afternoon, a wildfire near the "Tropical Islands" holiday and leisure resort in southern Brandenburg prompted a substantial firefighting operation. According to a spokesperson, roughly three hectares of forest in the Dahme-Spreewald district were affected. The blaze was put out late in the evening. The cause of the fire is yet to be identified.
Thunderstorms and showers at nightfall
Some clouds drift in around nightfall, with potential localized showers and thunderstorms in the northwestern part of Brandenburg. Temperatures fall to a range of 17 to 20 degrees Celsius.
Friday will largely remain cloudy, with scattered showers and individual thunderstorms in certain regions. Temperatures will slightly decrease - with highs between 24 and 30 degrees Celsius.
In the transition from Friday to Saturday night, the clouds persist in the southeastern part of the sky, with showers forecasted in some areas. Temperatures descend to a range of 11 to 15 degrees Celsius.
The German Meteorological Service (DMS) further adds: "The following is added to the heat alert: the forecasted high temperatures could potentially exacerbate forest fire risks in certain regions." At the press conference, a spokesperson for DMS emphasizes: "We urge everyone to adhere to safety guidelines, including being vigilant during barbecues and setting up campfires, to minimize the risk of forest fires under the current heat conditions."
