Vehicular Movement Passing vehicles and cars (traffic) - Extensive traffic congestion forms near the Elbe tunnel's southern entrance.
On Friday morning, a line of cars several kilometers long stretched out before the Hamburg Elbtunnel on Autobahn 7, headed towards the South. "The traffic congestion extends up to ten kilometers in length," explained a representative from Hamburg's Traffic Control Center. This was due to two instances of heavy goods vehicles activating the electronic height control system. The southern section of the Autobahn was blocked by the police for an hour and then again for an additional 20 minutes, whereas traffic in the north continued uninterrupted.
During this period, the A7 near Hamburg-Othmarschen towards the South will only be accessible with two lanes until Saturday morning at 9:00 AM. Apparently, a cable duct cover had become dislodged a few hundred meters prior to the Othmarschen exit, right before the Elbtunnel, according to the Autobahn company. The possible cause appears to be the heavy traffic from large vehicles. With the EM game Poland-Netherlands scheduled to take place at the Volksparkstadion on Sunday and approximately 49,000 football fans anticipated, repairs cannot be delayed.
