Extensive search: Police helicopter searches for mushroom picker

An elaborate search operation has been launched in a forest near Uebigau-Wahrenbrück (Elbe-Elster district) for a temporarily missing mushroom picker. As the police announced on Monday, the 61-year-old and an acquaintance had lost sight of each other while picking mushrooms on Sunday afternoon. The man was then reported missing in the evening. The police began their search. A police helicopter was also deployed.

Around four hours after the missing person was reported, the acquaintance gave the all-clear: The 61-year-old had turned up at his home. According to the police, the man had not been carrying a cell phone to make contact. He eventually found his way out of the forest himself and made his way home on foot and by hitchhiking.

On Friday, a 60-year-old man in a forest near Eisenhüttenstadt (Oder-Spree district) had already triggered a major search operation by the police and fire department. According to the police, the missing man reappeared on Saturday morning, heavily intoxicated

Despite the frequent occurrences of such incidents, it's crucial to always carry essentials during nature expeditions, such as a cell phone, to ensure safety in case of emergencies. Fortunately, in the recent forest incident, nature's elements didn't pose any significant challenges for the 61-year-old, enabling him to navigate and survive until his safe return.
