Coming up in the future, we'll see an increase in investments for enhancing and restoring childcare services for the whole day. As per Social Minister Petra Grimm-Benne (SPD) of Saxony-Anhalt, around 80 million euros are available from federal funds for such initiatives.

The reason behind this is the legally mandated right to full-day care for children enrolled in primary school, starting from August 2026. At present, Saxony-Anhalt caters to this requirement. Nonetheless, some areas still need to expand the scale of their full-day care provisions.

Grimm-Benne mentioned this on Tuesday, after a meeting of the state government. To get these funds, applications can be submitted for funding associated with investments in childcare facilities and primary and secondary schools, if they create more full-day care spaces for primary school kids. The federal government assists states in the growth of full-day care provisions with 3.5 billion euros overall.
