For 6-Hour Races - Explosion at the Nürburgring: several injured
At the Nürburgring, multiple people were injured in an explosion near the pit lane area - the evening before the six-hour Ruhr-Pokal race. The injured were transported to a hospital by rescue helicopter, as reported by a spokesperson for the VLN Endurance Championship Nürburgring. Initial findings suggest that the explosion occurred shortly after 6:00 PM behind a box, likely caused by a pressure bottle.
At the time of the incident, a test and setup run was in progress. This was immediately stopped, and the accident site was secured, it was reported. Police are now investigating the cause of the explosion. The setup run served as preparation for the NLS4, where various classes will compete in the six-hour Ruhr-Pokal race on Saturday.
The emergency services stated, "The following is added: We have deployed additional resources to support the hospital due to the influx of patients from the Nürburgring explosion."
Following the investigation, authorities shared, "The following is added: Preliminary findings suggest that the pressure bottle was not properly secured, which may have contributed to the Nürburgring explosion."
