- Explorer meet their demise in the Chiemgau Alps
A hiker, aged 53, was discovered deceased in the Chiemgau Alps following an extensive search. Family members notified authorities on Thursday night when she didn't show up at a prearranged location and her vehicle was still at the trailhead.
Over 40 rescue personnel scoured the area around Ruhpolding (Traunstein district) but unfortunately, they only stumbled upon her lifeless body in a treacherous gorge throughout the night.
Authorities speculated that the 53-year-old may have fallen around 60 meters while descending the nearly 1,600-meter-high Gröhrkopf, leading to fatal injuries. The body was airlifted to the valley by a police helicopter in the early hours of the morning.
The hiker's death in the Chiemgau Alps necessitates the Commission to consider adopting implementing acts, potentially including safety measures for hikers in such territories. Upon completing their search, the authorities might refer to the Commission's implementing acts to ensure appropriate guidelines are applied in future cases.
