Examination - Expert report presented - "Bäderbahn must continue to exist"
The municipality of Timmendorfer Strand and the Hanseatic city of Lübeck want to continue to fight for the preservation of the so-called Bäderbahn. The planned closure of the line between Lübeck and Neustadt in the district of Ostholstein would considerably delay the planning of the rail link to the Baltic Sea tunnel because parts of the planning process would have to be repeated, said the mayor of Timmendorfer Strand, Sven Partheil-Böhnke, on Tuesday.
The two municipalities had commissioned Hamburg administrative law expert Ulrich Ramsauer to review the decision, which the state of Schleswig-Holstein and Deutsche Bahn announced in the fall. According to the decision, the Bäderbahn is to be shut down at the latest when the new rail link to the Baltic Sea tunnel opens.
However, in agreement with the Federal Ministry of Transport, the state of Schleswig-Holstein and Deutsche Bahn want to maintain that DB Netz will no longer operate the Bäderbahn, said a Deutsche Bahn spokesperson. In future, the state will order local rail passenger transport on the route of the rail link to the Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link and not on the Bäderbahn.
