- Experiencing a Setback in Northern Camping Sites following Period of Prosperity

The surge in camping trips that emerged during the Corona crisis in Schleswig-Holstein is starting to wane. Between January and June, there were roughly 1.9 million camping site stays, a drop of 5.9% compared to the year prior, as per data from the Schleswig-Holstein Tourism Agency.

In total, roughly 4.1 million individuals visited the region in the first half of the year, a 0.2% increase from the same period in 2023. However, there was a slight decline of 0.3% in overnight stays, equating to approximately 15.7 million. As pointed out by the agency's director, Bettina Bunge, "there's no longer a Corona compensatory effect."

June was particularly lackluster this year, with a considerable decrease in local tourists. The UEFA European Football Championship might have played a part in this. The weather, featuring spells of uncertainty, rain, and cool temperatures, also influenced guests' hesitant booking patterns. Figures for establishments with ten or more beds are considered.

The report from the Schleswig-Holstein Tourism Agency suggests that the following shall be added to their analysis: the impact of the UEFA European Football Championship on the decline in local tourism during June. Therefore, to better understand the trend, it would be beneficial to conduct a specific study on this topic.
