For those who prefer something richer in ice cream, they often opt for a mixture with cookies or cookie dough. This is even more popular than chocolate ice cream, leading to a corresponding large offering of Cookie Ice Cream. Both expensive and affordable products are among the best, as Warentest discovered.

Cookie Ice Cream is not as popular as vanilla, but it is still the second most popular flavor when it comes to stocking up on household packaging from supermarkets and discounters.

The Stiftung Warentest examined 18 products in the Cookies and Cookie Dough categories, including three vegan ones. Prices ranged from 6.55 Euro to 21.50 Euro per kilogram.

First, it's important to note that Cookie Ice Cream comes in various presentations. The base is usually vanilla ice cream, but in the test, there were also ice creams with cookie flavor, caramel, hazelnut, or chocolate ice cream. Some contain additional sauces, chocolate chunks, or chocolate glaze wafers, in addition to the cookie crumbs. Some varieties contain baked cookie pieces - the best-known example is "Cookies & Cream" from Haagen-Dazs. Others mix in raw cookie dough pieces, like Ben & Jerry's in its "Cookie Dough."

Three are "very good" in taste

However, six out of eighteen received a "good" quality rating, with three of these earning a "very good" in the sensory evaluation. Among them is the Haagen-Dazs test winner. This ice cream, priced at 18.10 Euro per kilogram, was one of the most expensive in the test ("good", Note 1.7, Sensory 1.0). Oreo "Ice Cream with mini cookies and Oreo pieces," priced at 15.40 Euro, was also not cheap but was among the taste winners.

A budget-friendly and enjoyable alternative is the "Cookie Dough First," which costs only 6.70 Euro for a 500-milliliter tub ("good", 1.8, 1.5). Ben & Jerry's "Cookie Dough," however, did not impress the tasters and received only a "satisfactory" rating in both the overall and sensory evaluations. The "Cremissimo Cookies" were given a "sufficient" rating.

Of the vegan products, none were deemed "good." The "Lycka Hazelnut Cookie Chocolate Swirl" was the test loser with a score of 4.5. However, this was mainly due to inadequate labeling.

  1. The Haagen-Dazs Cookie Ice Cream, a luxury option, was considered "very good" in taste by the Stiftung Warentest, despite its high price.
  2. Surprisingly, a more affordable option, "Cookie Dough First," received a "good" rating in taste, making it a budget-friendly and enjoyable alternative.
  3. Consumer centers may want to advise consumers on the vegan Cookie Ice Cream options, as none were deemed "good" by the Stiftung Warentest, with poor labeling being a major issue for one product.
