- Expanding the hydrogen infrastructure in Bad Lauchstädt continues.

Following the installation of fresh components, the hydrogen infrastructure in Bad Lauchstädt, Saalekreis, has undergone an expansion. As per project manager Cornelia Müller-Pagel, "We've hit a significant milestone with the installation of this new fitting for the network hookup of our initial hydrogen client in the Energy Park Bad Lauchstädt." The objective of Leipzig gas trader VNG is to link the TotalEnergies refinery Mitteldeutschland situated in the Leuna chemical park with the hydrogen network, thereby ensuring a continuous supply of hydrogen.

The hydrogen scheduled for transportation via the network is produced roughly 25 kilometers away from the refinery. The newly installed fitting, weighing around six tons, was maneuvered into the excavation pit with the help of a specialized crane before being welded to the existing pipeline. Besides this, to fully integrate the refinery, additional tasks such as drillings and the establishment of a monitoring and control system are necessary, as reported.

The expansion of the hydrogen infrastructure in Bad Lauchstädt has the potential to provide a significant source of renewable Energy. With the connection of the TotalEnergies refinery, we can expect a steady supply of hydrogen for various Energy-intensive applications.
