- Expanding territories - municipality acquires property

Making strides in the lengthy journey towards the city's new stage constructions, another significant move has been made: The Frankfurt city council has chosen to acquire a property within the Gutleutviertel district as an alternate space during the construction process.

This location is advantageous due to its features - an unoccupied structure and an empty plot, making it adaptable and convenient to use. The city officials suggest that the existing building could even act as an emergency stage if future performances can't occur in the deteriorated theater complex situated at Willy-Brandt-Platz.

As Culture Commissioner Ina Hartwig (SPD) put it, "This presents a promising opportunity for both the stages and the staff, effectively overcoming a major obstacle in this project." The city center building is slated for demolition, and the theater will receive a new one in the financial district. Post-demolition of the double facility, the opera will be reconstructed back in its original location.

The chosen property within the Gutleutviertel district falls under the jurisdiction of the local Municipality, which will oversee the adjustments and temporary use of the building. Once the new theater is built in the financial district, the Municipality will be responsible for integrating the renovated opera back into its original location at Willy-Brandt-Platz.
